Department of Bengali
The Bengali Department since its inception in 1942 (also the foundation year of our institution) has served as a premier unit of Nabadwip Vidyasagar College, imbibing over time, a rich tradition of academic and cultural excellence. Eminent scholars, Narayan Gangopadhaya and Asit Kumar Bandopadhaya to name a few, have served as Professors in its initial years of existence.
The Department presently offers 2 UG courses :
- B.A Honours
- B.A. General
It also offers a PG course -
- M.A. in Bengali through Directorate of Distance Learning (DODL), under the auspices of Kalyani University, the introduction of which has facilitated convenient dissemination of higher education to an ever increasing number of Graduates.
Apart from offering access to a vast collection of literary volumes and scholastic journals in the Central Library, the Department provides ample opportunities for freshmen and sophomores to explore their creativity through in-house symphosiums, cultural events, programmes, contests and educational excursions, a number of which have culminated in the acquisition of prestigious titles for the college (a notable example being Riya Das Adhikary, placed first in a State-wide Essay writing competition in West Bengal). - After completion of the Bengali Honours course the students mainly will get opportunity in the field of teaching area.From the Primary school to university one can join through the TET, NET ,SET etc.
- Proof reading is a unique profession. The students are equipped with the help of syllabus . Today the Publication house including print media offers job in this sector.So Proof reading will be the very interesting and important engagement in our students.
- Journalism is another interesting sector to join as a profession.The student who has writing skill can proceed in this matter.
- In the modern time in the field of film and television World a good script writer is a important part .So it is exclusive profession in our Bengali Honours subject.
- Beside these media science is also another space where our students may join.
